Fear to Commit

Have you ever been  afraid to commit to something? It might have been a relationship, it might have been your fitness goals or a goal at work!

How we try to cover up our fear

  1. I just don’t have time to do it
  2. It is not the right moment
  3. I am too busy
  4. I am too old
  5. It is not appropriate
  6. My partner does not support me
  7. I am sick
  8. I am injured
  9. I am recovering

What you see here are sometimes reasons and excuses we use to cover up “the why” for not committing: fear.

The fear to commit is more common than we think. I have it, and you might have it. It might show in different arenas but it is often there. Why are we afraid? Are we afraid to fail? Are we afraid that if we commit and fail we validate our opinion of us, that we are a failure? Are afraid to be an embarrassment?

What separates us from people who are truly successful in life? What are these people doing in that particular sector that gets them where they want to be?

They have come to realize that we all are afraid, that we all fail, that we all might embarrass us.

These people might have also come to realize that the person who tries and tries again is more than the person who does not. They have come to realize that failing and being a failure is not the same!

I have failed in my life many times, and I know I will continue to do so. But one thing is for sure! I will not let it define me, at least not for long! I might wallow for a second but I promise you, I will get back up.

So, you are injured or sick, and you cannot train as hard as you want to? Well, then maybe it is time to do as much as you can and is good for you! Have you tackled your nutrition? Have you tackled other areas? We often think that we need to attack all angles when in reality that approach most often fails. Go for the lowest hanging fruit and then work yourself up!

I challenge you today. Get back up! Try again! Be a child that does not know embarrassment or fear. Know one thing: Each moment in your life is unique. You have each moment only one time. It will never come again, at least not the same way. Know that change is inevitable. Change happens around us and in us. We age, just like our children and parents. You cannot stop change but you can embrace it. If change is something that is bound to happen, then let’s try to influence change in our favor!

We get so busy with life, that we forget to live! We forget to do what is important to us! We are busy with things we do not really care about because they cannot hurt us!

Things that cannot hurt you are rarely worth fighting for! Invest into yourself and commit! Commit to being healthy and spend time with your kids, or just be fit. You want to go back to school, then take some classes on the side! There is always, always a way! We are so fond of the word never: I never would, could, do….. How about I will always try, because I am worth it!

Now go and get it done! Try again, and if you fail? Try again, and again, and again, and again! You are worth being your best. You are worth making a positive impact on yourself, your immediate surroundings and the world.

Have an awesome day, I have to go, because I am going to try again, right now!

Michael
