Extreme Makeover vs. Slow and Steady?

Fast changes in nutrition & fitness versus the turtle approach!

Different body types from endo to mesomorph

Our minds differ as much as our bodies!

We are always looking for a right and a wrong. Maybe we need to forget about that… at least when it comes to fitness. One approach rarely is for everybody. We are all created not equal but equally different. Our individual minds differ very much, just like we have a variety of body types that tend to be lean, short, tall , muscular, or pudgy. The combinations are almost endless.

What works for you?

Obviously I cannot simply answer that question, since I don’t know you.

On my blog I have focused so far on people who have a hard time making changes rapidly and on a large scale. That does not mean that people with the ability to change fast do not exist and that we might set them up for failure if we go too slow.

How do you know who you are?

This is  a good question and I think this one can be answered by asking several other questions first.

  • Do you like change in general?
  • Are you a spontaneous person?
  • Do you have trouble sticking to a decision once you made it?
  • Are you afraid of change?
  • Are you an innovator, someone who tries new stuff and gives it a real shot before discarding it?
  • Are you an emotional eater (trouble in life = ice cream as dinner)

If you have a propensity to be averse to change, hesitant or have a hard time sticking to decisions in other areas, or food has a strong emotional connection, then slower changes are most likely better for you.

If you are the go-getter, you take charge, food is sustenance and you just did not pay attention to it, then you might be one of the few people who can make a radical, lasting change really quickly.

If you are in the first category though, but you had a life altering event happening to you, then there actually is a chance for you to make a radical change yourself and sticking with it.

Which approach is better?

The one that works. There is no point in trying to do something fast and failing two weeks later. Same the other way around. If you get bored so quickly that you lose interest, then maybe it is time to pick up the game a notch. You might even be a “hybrid” exercise might come easy to you but nutrition does not, same the other way around. Find what works best for you and don’t be afraid to make adjustments.

Have a wonderful day,

Michael
